Joining the Club

Joining a club is a great way to get the most out of your cycling. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned racer, there is nothing better than riding with like-minded cyclists to develop your skills and challenge yourself.

 

Birkenhead Victoria Cycling Club

……was founded in 1929, and in its 90 years so far has a rich history in many of the cycling disciplines, over the years members have involved with Time Trailing, Road Racing, Track Racing, Charity rides and weekend rides for leisure.

 

Famous member

Did you know that Chris Boardman’s first club in 1982 was the Birkenhead Victoria, and his first race was a 10 miles Vics time trial event just outside Chester.  The following year Chris won the Vics  School Boy championship. 

 

Charity Rides

In recent years members have been involved with some big charity rides.  Organising a ride from Gretna Green in Scotland to Garden City in Wales, covering 175 miles in just over 12 hours to raise over £4,231.08 for Clatterbridge Cancer research.  The following year taking part in the annual Wild Wales 97 miles event around mid-Wales, raising £4,352.90 for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).

 

Organisation

You don’t have to ride a bike to join a cycling club, some members get a lot of enjoyment and pleasure from the organisation side of time trials or time keeping for time trials and supporting the local association of cycling clubs, all helping to encourage promising riders.
